Buyers’ views on the business takeover
The transfer-takeover is the subject of renewed interest in political, professional and academic circles, with the release of several studies and reports. However, there are still many grey areas to be clarified, such as the questions of diversity, the nature and role of support and the conditions for a successful takeover strategy. This is the ambition of this report, which invites to highlight the views of buyers on the takeover of a company through the case of the winners of Réseau Entreprendre.
This report, realized in partnership with Réseau Entreprendre, is based on a questionnaire survey. It explores the takeover process from the point of view of support and performance.
4 objectives
1. the characteristics of the winners and their companies,
2. the re-preneurship profile of the winners,
3. the coaching experience and the contributions of mentoring,
4. laureates’ satisfaction with the re-preneurship process and financial performance.
« Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation: what prospects for France? »
Since the early 2000s, France has been experiencing the development of an entrepreneurial society. The number of business start-ups has reached record levels, particularly with the development of auto-entrepreneurship. Young people are increasingly considering entrepreneurship as a professional project. More and more universities, business schools and engineering schools are setting up entrepreneurship teaching programs, sometimes with incubators to facilitate the creation of companies among students.
The development of this entrepreneurial culture is also taking shape in existing companies, regardless of their size. This entrepreneurial dynamic is expressed through the emergence of entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems that contribute to generating collaborations between companies, universities and public authorities. These contexts are conducive to the development of collaborative innovation projects.
White paper on business creation support structures in France. Overview of support structures in terms of management and performance
Business creation support is receiving increasing attention from public authorities. Representing more than 1,500 structures in France and with an estimated budget of 2.7 billion euros, budgetary constraints increasingly call into question the performance and degree of professionalization of business creation support structures. What are the reasons for the performance of these structures? Are there differences between the different support networks?
This white paper published by Labex Entreprendre aims to answer these major questions and results in recommendations for defining an entrepreneurial policy that meets the economic challenges facing France.
Analysis of the development trajectory of companies incubated at Languedoc Roussillon Incubation (LRI)
The objective of this study is to analyze the success factors of start-ups incubated at Languedoc-Roussillon Incubation (LRI) and to identify typical development paths. All LRI projects were taken into account from the start of the incubator’s activity in 2001 until 2011 (182 projects). The study is based on a double approach, quantitative and qualitative. It relies on three main sources of data: the LRI incubator database, data collected through the administration of a questionnaire, and interviews.
8 recommendations
1. Increase awareness of the entrepreneurial culture;
2. Encourage less radical innovation, more favorable to regional employment;
3. Introduce more flexibility in the collaboration with research laboratories;
4. To promote access to the skills acquired during experiences in business creation or internationally;
5. Find new sources of funding to overcome the “valley of death”;
6. Reinforce the legal support and industrial property;
7. Develop open innovation;
8. Facilitate the recruitment of commercial skills.

Activity Report 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic, which since March 2020 has turned the life of the University, its partners and our societies as a whole upside down, has obviously had a profound effect on LabEx Entreprendre’s operations.
And yet, in many respects, the 2020 results are a source of great satisfaction. The publication dynamic, one of the key indicators of our activity, has been maintained. The growth in the number of publications, which has been underway for several years, has not faltered. LabEx’s work on sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation is at the heart of current societal challenges, which call into question development models, business organization models, the nature of their activities, and their ability to offer new products and services in response to environmental and social emergencies.
Activity report 2019
For LabEx Entreprendre, 2019 was both a year of uncertainty and consolidation. Uncertainties, first of all, as official confirmation of its extension under the Programme d’Investissements d’Avenir was only notified in July. As a result, a number of structuring projects requiring multi-year funding could not be launched.
These uncertainties have nonetheless led to a strengthening of the LabEx, prompting it to reaffirm its project (centered on its original theme: sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation) and update its governance. The respective roles of the Chairs and the programs have been clarified: the programs are responsible for research activities and the production of knowledge; the Chairs are responsible for disseminating this knowledge, through training activities (in support of the teaching components) and transfer activities towards public and private players.
Activity report 2018
For LabEx Entreprendre, 2018 can be seen as a pivotal year for two reasons: it was the year of its evaluation, by an international jury, with a view to its extension under the Programme d’Investissements d’Avenir; and it was the year of the updating of its project and governance.
In its report, published in early 2019, the international LabEx jury gave a positive assessment of Entreprendre’s results and project, proposing that it be extended for the next 5 years. In particular, it underlines its very high level of activity in the three areas of research, training and valorization of the knowledge produced, thanks to a strong involvement with players in the field, at regional, national and international levels.
The ambition is now to achieve a higher level of international recognition for Montpellier’s research in entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development.
Activity report 2017
For Labex Entreprendre, 2017 was a year of consolidation of the many actions undertaken over the past 6 years. This collaborative project, initiated in 2011 under the impetus of Prof. Karim Messeghem, has provided a lasting structure for sustained interdisciplinary research activity on entrepreneurship and innovation in a society facing the challenges of sustainable development.
As the only Labex in the Human and Social Sciences within the I-SITE Montpellier Université d’Excellence (MUSE), it is fully in line with the shared ambition to create a research-intensive thematic university in Montpellier, internationally recognized for its ability to respond to three major societal challenges: feeding, caring and protecting.
This commitment is reflected in the significant development of Labex’s work at the crossroads of law, economics and management, within the framework of steadily expanding international collaborations and joint projects with the other scientific fields of the MUSE I-SITE.
After initiating the project in 2011 and steering it since its inception, Prof. Messeghem completed his mandate at the end of the year.
Activity report 2016
2016 marked the 5th anniversary of Labex Entreprendre. This collaborative project has helped to structure research on the theme of entrepreneurship and innovation and to initiate ambitious projects at the intersection of Law, Economics and Management. In 2015, the international jury’s mid-term assessment praised the quality of the program’s achievements.
Numerous initiatives have been taken to promote the program. The partnership forged with the Montpellier Chamber of Commerce and Industry to organize the Forum de la création d’entreprise reflects Labex Entreprendre’s commitment to working alongside regional players. Long-term partnerships have also been forged with national players such as PEPITE France and AFE (Agence France Entrepreneur). The desire to make the results of research programs more accessible to political and economic decision-makers is reflected in the release of 4 new issues of Labex Entreprendre Publications. 5-year celebrations highlighted the fundamental work accomplished in the fields of research, training and development. Labex took the opportunity offered by the 5-year celebration to publish 30 proposals for France, on the theme of sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation, which we hope will inspire political decision-makers for the next 5 years.
Activity report 2015
2015 was marked by the mid-term evaluation of Labex Entreprendre by the international jury. The evaluators highlighted the “impressive” nature of the achievements in the fields of research, training and valorisation. Their contribution to the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem was also highlighted. They also urged greater efforts to disseminate the knowledge produced in major international journals.
Labex Entreprendre will celebrate its 5th anniversary on April 7, 2016, with a one-day event on the theme of “Sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation: what prospects for France?”. This theme resonates with the universal climate agreement resulting from COP21. The challenge is to produce scientific knowledge in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation, useful for political decision-makers and businesses alike.
Activity report 2014
This third year of activity for Labex Entreprendre was an opportunity to strengthen ties with the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem. Labex appears both as a reference team for national and regional political and economic decision-makers, a think-tank force for proposals, and as a player in support by promoting entrepreneurial and innovation dynamics.
Technology transfer and training are a priority for Labex Entreprendre, in line with the requirements defined within the framework of the “Programmes d’Investissement d’Avenir”, and in partnership with SATT AxLR. SME managers have been trained as part of Executives programs, with a particular focus on growth. Business start-up support is no longer just a research focus, but has become a Labex Entreprendre activity.
Three academic spin-off projects are in the emergence phase and should give rise to innovative young companies in the coming months.
Through these various actions, Labex Entreprendre has become a key player in the entrepreneurial and innovation dynamics of our region.
